Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ota Branch has nabbed one Sylvester Ogbodu, 54 years of age who has been parading himself as a Legal Practitioner practicing under the name and style of “OGBOGU & OGBOGU & CO.”

The accused was caught as a result of a planned attempt to sell a filling station, World Oil Industries Ltd. situate at Lekki-Epe Express Road.
Sylvester Ogbogu, alleged that he obtained his LL.B degree from the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma in 2003 and thereafter obtained his LL.M from the University of Benin after years of his being called to the Nigerian Bar.
Meanwhile, the proposed buyer had already signified their interest to purchase the said filing station vide separate letters.
The first letter was dated 6th day of January, 2020 by Okozag Services Engineering Ltd. where it indicated interest to purchase the property with a reply from the alleged fake Lawyer dated 8th day of January, 2020 where he express his readiness to proceed with the transaction.
In addition, the company replied vide another letter dated 21st day of July, 2020 with an acceptance “subject to contract”.
According to the information made available to TheNigerialawyer(TNL), by a law firm of Ogbah Isaac & Co., “Sylvester Ogbogu had accepted the offer of #1.6B for the purchase of the said filling station made by the buyer, and in his bid to fraudulently obtain the photocopies of the title documents from the lawyers to World Oil Industries Ltd, he described himself to have obtained his LL.B degree from the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma in 2003 and thereafter obtained his LL.M from the University of Benin after years of his being called to the Nigerian Bar, to approach the law firm of Ogbah Isaac & Co, for the said title documents.
“It was in the process of his intent to obtain the title documents that made the Managing Partner of the firm, Isaac Ogbah, FICMC, the immediate past Chairman of the Utter Bar, to interrogate and questioned the rationale of a lawyer claiming to represent a client who never briefed him to represent them in the first place coupled with he not having met the owners of the station or revived their instructions to offer their property for sale at any point in time.
In the course of further interrogation carried on the suspect by the Executive Committee members of the Utter Bar several items were recovered from him, including but not limited to several Letter head papers bearing the law firm of OGBOGU AND OGBOGU & Co, copies of Quit Notices and Power of Attorney issued and franked by him as a lawyer; lawyer’s Bib and several letters written by the said suspect in his bid to fraudulently sell the company’s filling station.
However, it is further garnered that he has been handed over to the Police for further investigation and on ward prosecution.
The Chairman of the NBA Ota Branch, J, T. Ogunniyi, FICMC has promised to see to it that upon the conclusion of the investigation activities that the suspect is arraigned and properly prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to all those unlawfully impersonating themselves as legal practitioners.
He equally lamented the resent surge of several fake persons parading themselves as lawyers coming from from other jurisdiction to come and engage in legal practice in Ota, Ifo and its environs.
The branch chairman stated that within the past one month 2 other persons impersonating and parading themselves as legal practitioners, when in fact they never saw the four walls of any law school, were arrested both at the Federal High Court Abeokuta and Itori Magistrate Court with the suspect arrested at The Federal High Court, Abeokuta presently serving a 3 year jail term sequel to him being found guilty upon conclusion of trial while the other suspect arrested at the Itori Magistrate Court last week would soon be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigation by the Police.
