The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, has ordered discreet investigations into circumstances surrounding the dehumanising treatment meted out to a lady by a policeman in a viral video.

In the 2- minute 20-second video, a young girl is seen handcuffed and lying on the floor as the policeman, who seems to be recording the video, commands her to stand up.

“Stand up, stand up. I go daze you o,” he said in pidgin as the video starts.

“Face me, face me. If you cover your face tire. CCTV go carry you. TV go carry you. All the stations go carry you. Stand up,” the policeman demanded.

The young girl, who seems in pain, could only moan.

Dressed in white T-shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers, the girl, could not sit up, showing signs of being brutalised.

She manages to stand and speaks in Yoruba begging the policeman, who continues to dehumanise her.

The incident happened in a large compound with several cars parked. Some people were seen standing around.

In a statement on the official Twitter handle of the Nigeria Police, @PoliceNG, on Wednesday evening, the IGP condemned the action.

It reads: “The IGP, while condemning the act, has directed the commencement of comprehensive investigations aimed at unraveling the true identity of the perpetrators with a view to bringing them to justice.

“Members of the public are hereby assured that any member of the Force found culpable in the incident will be made to face appropriate sanctions.”
