There was recent controversy surrounding allegations of plagiarism against the renowned Professor of Law and Director General of Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Prof. Muhammed Tawfiq Ladan.

However, one of the first mediums to raise the alarm, Education Monitor Newspaper has retracted the publication it made against the DG. This is contained in a statement issued on its website dated 15th day of July, 2020 which was sighted by TheNigeriaLawyer.

“The Management of Education Monitor Newspaper, hereby apologises to the Director-General of National Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), Prof MT Ladan, for publishing on our website and erroneous Lead with the caption – BREAKING: Plagiarism: DG NIALS, Prof Ladan, Resigns, To Stave off Dismissal, Prosecution.” It said.

Meanwhile, Education Monitor has apologized for the publication against the DG, noting that Ladan is held in high regard and a “Law Professor of international repute”.

“We sincerely apologise to the learned Prof, who we have high regards for as an astute Scholar and Law Professor of International repute, for the embarrassment and any kind of harm the erroneous lead and caption would have caused him.” It said.

Meanwhile, it would be recalled that Education Monitor Newspaper had earlier published a news with a subject “BREAKING: Plagiarism:DG NIALS, Prof Ladan, Resigns, To Stave off Dismissal, Prosecution”, via https://educationmonitornews.com/2020/07/01/breaking-plagiarism-dg-nials-prof-ladan-resigns-to-stave-off-dismissal-prosecution/, which had been pulled down as a mark of her apology to the Learned Professor of Law.

“We have also not only retracted the lead and the caption but have taken them off the website.” It concluded.
