*OBJECTIVES OF ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF COLLEGE OF NIGERIA.*

There is a federal institution known as the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) mandated to empower senior executives in Nigeria’s public and private sectors of the economy. It is governed by a Board, headed by a Director-General of the College and is located in Topo, Badagry, Lagos State with a liaison office in Abuja. The institution was created on 1st June 1972 by virtue of Administrative Staff College of Nigeria Act, 1972.

The college is established for seven (7) specific objectives, which include; provision of higher management training for the development of senior executives for the public and private sectors of the Nigerian economy; comparative study and investigation of the principles and techniques of management and administration, and for exchange of ideas and experiences and for promotion of a better understanding between persons connected with management and administration in the various spheres of national life; to research into problems of management and administration arising in different spheres of national life; award grants, scholarships or travel fellowships for research in public administration and allied subjects; establish and maintain a library; to undertake, organise and facilitate study courses, conferences, lectures, seminars and the like, and to promote the aforesaid objects; and to undertake and provide for the publication of journals and of research papers and books in furtherance of the aforesaid objects.
