The Honorable Chief Judge of Jigawa State, Hon. Justice Aminu Sabo Ringim, has announced the cancellation of the 2020 Annual Court Vacation in the State’s Judiciary which was earlier scheduled to commence from July 13 to September 11.

In the Legal Notice which was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL), Justice Ringim said the cancelation is “owing to the prolonged stay at home by the Honourable Judges without discharging their adjudicatory functions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Another reason given by Justice Ringim was “the volume of cases pending and the readiness of the Honourable Judges to attend to such cases expeditiously with a view to decongesting our Correctional Centres and the backlog of cases in the Court.”

According to the Chief Judge, provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and other laws empower him to cancel the vacation.
