The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has extended the deadline within which companies are to file their annual income tax returns.

This is contained in a statement issued by the FIRS Coordinating Director, Tax Operations Group, Mr. Femi Oluwaniyi which was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer, titled “Clarification on extension of deadline for filing CIT”.

Furthermore, the statement noted that the earlier statement it issued emphasizing that there was no extension for such filing was issued erroneously.

“This message is also to correct the wrong impression in an earlier post on this platform yesterday indicating that there was no such extension.

That message was in error and is accordingly withdrawn.”

Besides, the management noted that the extension is sequel to its plan as part of a palliative to cushion the effect of the ravaging Coronavirus pandemic on companies.

“This is in sync with Management’s earlier publication and pronouncements as part of palliatives you cushion the effects of Covid 19.”

In this light, FIRS has therefore extended the deadline for the filing to 31st day of July, 2020.

“The Management of FIRS hereby reiterates that all Companies with due dates of 30th June 2020 for filing their annual Income Tax Returns but could not, for whatever reasons, shall have up to 31st July 2020 to comply.”

“Inconveniences regretted please.” The statement concluded.
