The Spokesperson of Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, has refused the conditions given by the Police for his release.

A human rights lawyer, Maxwell Opara, disclosed this in his statement while narrating his visit to the IGP MONITORING UNIT, Abuja.

IMPUNITY AT LOUIS EDET HOUSE NPFQRTS

Yesterday myself together with Ohazuruike Tochukwu Esq and few other colleagues got to the IGP MONITORING UNIT at about 10 a.m in respect of this matter.

We met the leader investigating the purported offence he referred us to the head of IGP MONITORING UNIT but on getting there, his A O told us that the man was not sitting but we told him that there is a subsisting court order restraining the police from arresting IMO UGOCHINYERE ESQ on this issue, he said that we should rushed to legal department to see the CP in charge of Legal Because they ought to have informed them about the order earlier before now.

We rushed to the legal department, met the CP Legal, and narrated all that happened but he told us that he just resumed and not aware of the matter and called the legal officer handling the matter.

Having confirmed the existence of the court order from the officer. The CP invited the head of IGP monitoring UNIT and both of them had about 30mins closed-door meeting and thereafter the CP legal asked us to follow the Head of IGP monitoring UNIT to his office for the release of UGOCHINYERE.

We moved back to the IGP MONITORING UNIT with the ACP thinking that he was going to release him unconditionally as we were told by the CP having confirmed the court order but surprisingly the following conditions were given for his release:

1. Federal Permanent Secretary and Civil servant with a landed property in Abuja and C of O of the landed property shall be submitted with the police with N100m bail bond. We confronted the ACP again with the court order and asked him if he was trying to set aside the order of court with the police bail conditions.

He said that we should wait that INSPECTOR GENERAL has contacted the SPEAKER HON.FEMI GBAJABIAMILA who is complainant, that he was going to have meeting with all of us, we waited for about 2hours thereafter we were told that the Speaker was indisposed that we should go and come back by Monday.

We tried to confirm from him if the IG was acting in line with the Speaker’s directives or according the constitution and other enabling laws but he told us to meet IGP for that question. Well when the conditions for bail was given IMO UGOCHINYERE ESQ to acknowledge and sign, he simply rejected it and told them that he will not assist nor involve in the contempt rather he will prefer to be in the police detention. We shall be there again by Moday and IMO UGOCHINYERE ESQ is still under the police custody against the order of court. More update by Monday
