Former Chairman of Aguata branch of the NBA, who was also the Former Chairmen of the eight branches of the NBA, Anambra State, Sabastine Anyia, Esq., has reacted to the molestation of a young lawyer, Temitaya Igunnu, by some military men.

According to him, the harassment of lawyers by our security forces must stop. He noted that it appears our garment of honour, dignity and integrity as lawyers is now torn by the them.

“For how long shall Lawyers continue to suffer in the hands of Security Forces. It appears our garment of honour, dignity and integrity is now torn by them.

“These days, if lawyers are not harassed by Road Safety on our high ways, they are being molested by police men who arrest and detain lawyers for doing their professional duties and recently, by military men who tortured and brutalized lawyers for asserting their rights.

“Temitaya Igunnu is not the first lawyer to be tortured and brutalized by the military men, there are many lawyers who have had the same treatment and I assure you there will be more in future, if NBA does not exact her authority and do something for her teaming members,” he said.

Speaking further, he said that he is of the candid view that the leadership of the NBA must develop a new methodology of protecting her members from the cruel hands of these security forces, adding that, if we do not protect ourselves, no one else will — that the time is now.

In another development, Mr. Sabastine Anyia has saluted the Chairman and the good people of NBA Aguata branch on the occasion of their March monthly meeting today, the 7th day of March, 2020.

“I wish them a rewarding and eventful deliberation. It’s my humble wish that we develop a new methodology of protecting our colleagues from the hands of our security forces,” he said.
