A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa has given his opinion on the judgment of the Supreme Court sacking Bayelsa governor, Mr. Lyon.
In a statement made available to TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL), the learned silk contends that based on the Nigerian constitution, sovereignty belongs to the people.
Adegboruwa, SAN says The concept of election is to allow the people to choose their leaders freely. Therefore, he cautions: “We must avoid situations whereby leaders emerge through the courts, as that will be circumventing the will of the people.
“Let us allow people to choose their leaders.”
To him, the decisions of tribunals/courts on Imo, Bayelsa, Zamfara, etc, are serious indictment of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the political parties.
“There is no legacy that the present administration has bestowed upon us as a nation in the area of electoral reforms, but rather things have gotten worse.”
