An IGBO group by the name Ugwuoba People’s Frontiers of Ugwuoba Rural and Urban has condemned the act of some IPOB members assaulting the former Deputy Governor of the Nigerian Senate, Prof. Ike Ekweremadu.

This was made known in a press release signed by the leadership of the group.

Condemning the action, the group said that the perpetrators of the act will not go unpunished.

Below read the press statement

We the members and leadership of Ugwuoba People’s Frontiers of Ugwuoba Rural and Urban hereby condemn in totality the assault and manhandling of the former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate and currently the Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment, Prof Ike Ekweremadu, CFR in Nuremberg Germany by persons claiming to be members of IPOB.

We wish to categorically say with every sense of responsibility that Prof Ike Ekweremadu is a true son of Igboland and a senator representing the people of Enugu West Senatorial District of Enugu State who has distinguished himself and has been seen many times within and outside the Red Chambers of Nigerian Senate defending and fighting for the course of Igbo people and Nigerians at large and as such did not deserve this type of treatment by any Nigerian talk more of Ndi Igbo under whatever guise.

Therefore, let it be known to the world that the perpetrators of this devilish and dastardly acts will never go unpunished as they will be made to face the full wrath of the law. This is not only clear abuse on his fundamental human rights but a threat to life and disgrace to the entire Igbo race.

The Distinguished Senator is our own and our pride and an injury to him is an injury to all of us. (Injury to one is injury to all)

Senator IKE Ekweremadu remains one of our noble leaders and we are forever proud of him.

It is well with you IKEOHA NDIGBO
