The Nigerian Bar association (N.B.A), Awka Branch, has successfully elected new Executive Committee to steer its affairs for the next two years. The elections, conducted by the Electoral Committee led by Sir Uba Anene, were held on Saturday the 29th day of June, 2019, at the Ozo Amanke Okafor Bar Centre, Awka.

According to the Publicity Secretary of the Branch, Chief Osita Dominic Okoli, polling commenced at about 10.00am. Most of the executive positions were unopposed except for the positions of Chairman and Secretary of the Branch.

The two candidates who contested for the Chairmanship position were Mr Ekene Okonkwo and Sir (Hon.) Bona Oraekwe. The former polled 67 votes while the latter polled 10 votes.

The position of Secretary was contested by Mr Tony Anazor and Mr Ikechukwu F. Okpe. The former polled 65 votes while the latter polled 13 votes. Consequently, Ekene Okonkwo was declared the new Chairman-Elect, while Tony Anazor was declared the new Secretary-Elect.

The incoming Chairman, Mr Ekene Okonkwo, gave a vote of thanks after the polls and promised an all-inclusive administration.

The other officers that were returned unopposed are: 1. Vice Chairman: P.U. Chukwukwue 2. Assistant Secretary: Nmasi C. Ilechukwu 3. Treasurer: C.C. Onubogu 4. Legal Adviser: Maxwell Udechukwu

The outgoing Chairman, Sir Gab. Moneke, thanked all the members of the Branch, particularly the candidates for running issues-based campaign and for their display of maturity and sportsmanship before, during, and after the election. He promised to assist the incoming Executive Committee whenever necessary.

Thereafter members of the Branch were lavishly entertained by the incoming Executive Committee.

The election ended around 12:34pm while the members of N.B.A Awka Branch, continued to wine and dine which dovetailed into the “Onokolu” (Merriment) session where members basked in unusual conviviality.
