The Director-General of SON, Mr. Osita Aboloma, FICMC, who was represented by Mallam Usman Abdullahi, the Director of Human Resource Management, stated that the essence of the training is to improve the capacity of the staff of SON to deliver quality services and improve their interpersonal skills in the discharge of their duties. Further, he stated that by undertaking this training and subsequently become certified and accredited Mediators and Conciliators, the organization will be able to explore other dispute resolution avenues; asides Litigation, with a view to resolving issues that border on enforcement of standards. The participants of the training, who serve in various departments of SON such as; Compliance, Human Resources, Factory Inspection, Management System Audit, Accounts, etc., admitted that they settle consumer-related disputes on a daily basis and agreed that Mediation Skills would be of great value to them in their personal lives and in the discharge of their official duties. The staff of SON were very enthusiastic about the course content and engaging role play activities, which they undertook with great zeal. By the end of the Institute’s intensive Mediation Skills Training, they begun to demonstrate the skills garnered in their relations with colleagues. At the end of the training, the participants expressed their profound thanks to the Director-General, SON for the opportunity to improve their capacity in dispute resolution, and to the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators for imparting such knowledge which will re-orient their minds to advocate the use of Mediation and Conciliation in the resolution of disputes, and the professionalism of ICMC Faculty Members.
