As the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel enters its fourth day, Israel’s national emergency service, Magen David Adom (MDA), has confirmed that three people were killed and at least 74 others evacuated following a wave of Iranian rocket attacks on Sunday.

The strikes hit four sites in central Israel, with 68 individuals sustaining mild injuries, according to MDA. Rescue operations were still ongoing at two of the affected locations as of early Monday morning.

In northern Israel, British maritime security firm Ambrey reported fires at a power plant near Haifa after Iranian forces launched ballistic missiles at the city’s port infrastructure. Video footage reportedly showed Israeli air defense intercepting the missiles, but not before two hypersonic warheads made impact.

The rising hostilities come as world leaders gather in Canada for a G7 summit, which is now expected to be dominated by the rapidly intensifying Middle East crisis.

The toll of the conflict continues to mount. Iranian health ministry officials have reported at least 224 fatalities from Israeli strikes in Tehran and other areas, stating that 90% of the victims were civilians, including women and children.

Meanwhile, Iranian media confirmed that Israel’s strike on Tehran over the weekend killed Mohammad Kazemi, the intelligence chief of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, along with his deputy.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed their deaths in an interview with Fox News, stating: “We got their chief intelligence officer and his deputy in Tehran.”

On the Israeli side, Iranian missile strikes have now killed at least 14 people, with three others reported missing. Hundreds have been injured, many during overnight attacks that targeted civilian areas. Netanyahu visited the site of one of the deadliest attacks in Bat Yam on Sunday, vowing retaliation: “Iran will pay a very heavy price for the premeditated murder of civilians, women, and children.”

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has urged citizens across the country to remain near protected shelters. “Movement in open areas should be minimized, and gatherings should be avoided,” the Home Front Command said in a public advisory. “Upon receiving an alert, enter the protected space and remain there until a new official announcement is issued.”

In the U.S., former President Donald Trump made headlines on Sunday, asserting on his platform Truth Social that peace between the two arch-rivals was “coming soon.” “Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal,” Trump wrote, despite the mounting casualties.

Two U.S. officials reportedly told Reuters that Trump had recently vetoed an Israeli plan to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during this escalation, amid ongoing communications between U.S. and Israeli leaders.

Meanwhile, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency claimed that Iranian security forces discovered a secret drone-manufacturing site in Shahr-e Ray, just south of Tehran. The site allegedly contained homemade bombs, over 200 kilograms of explosives, and was reportedly being used by Israeli operatives.

In response to the deepening crisis, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, has convened an emergency video conference of EU foreign ministers for Tuesday. “In light of the gravity of the situation in the Middle East,” an EU spokesperson said, “foreign ministers will discuss coordinated diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict.”

As G7 leaders prepare for their summit in the Canadian Rockies, mounting international pressure and growing civilian casualties are likely to force urgent discussions on pathways to de-escalation — even as both sides appear poised for further strikes.
