Prof Wahab Egbewole, 11th vice chancellor of the University of Ilorin, has said that the school, as part of its proactive measures, has designed a timetable that will not make the school suspend lectures during the 2023 voting exercise.

He explained that the institution is ahead in terms of innovations and has created a virtual class system that could accommodate as many as 1, 000 students online, who can take classes anywhere while also patenting research and marketing them; one of them is the production of its laptops.
“I have indicated that our students will be able to vote wherever they are and still be able to attend our classes. We won’t suspend classes for elections and voting will not affect our classes because we have designed a timetable that accommodates such challenges,” Prof Egbewole told journalists on Wednesday at the school premises at a media parley that marked his 100th day in office.
He also reacted to various issues bordering on funding, research and many other issues.
The VC said that the University under his watch has made progress in attracting research grants and other funding but admits that funding Universities in the country remains a big challenge.
“We will be deceiving ourselves if we think funding is not a challenge.
“But it will remain so for those who see it as a stumbling block.
“If you can think outside the box and think of ideas that will bring money, definitely money will follow such ideas.
“As I sit here, between last week and today, we have generated more than N100 million in grants to this university.
“We hope that all these grants will be translated into a funding regime.
“As I earlier indicated, we now have N500 million in funding for the hostel; we have N200 million for ICT intervention; we have another N75 million from JAMB.
“If we can identify the appropriate agency of government, if we identify the proper idea, it will be followed with money.
“But in the areas of marketing our research and turning them into a product, I am aware that we have patented between 18 to 20 research ideas.
“Between the last four weeks, I have also interacted with the director of the laptop, we are currently engaging with top industries around here as a first step, I am talking about Kam Wire and so on to see how we can engage them with our products,” he said.
