The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Abdulmajid Halifa Nazifi before a Kano State High Court over the alleged diversion of ₦34.875 million said to have been meant for the purchase of spaghetti from BUA.

Nazifi was arraigned on Wednesday before Justice Musa Karaye on a one-count charge of criminal misappropriation.

According to the charge, the defendant allegedly misappropriated the money belonging to Fahad Balarabe Adaji between September and October 2024 in Kano.

The prosecution alleged that the funds were transferred, on Nazifi’s instruction, into a First Bank account belonging to one Muazu Abdullahi for the purchase of IRS spaghetti from BUA, but were subsequently diverted for the defendant’s personal use.

The alleged offence, according to the prosecution, contravenes Section 308 of the Kano State Penal Code Law and is punishable under Section 309 of the same law.

Nazifi, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.

Following his plea, prosecution counsel, Mustapha Maiwada, asked the court to fix a date for trial and remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending the determination of the case.

Justice Karaye subsequently ordered that Nazifi be remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the matter until November 2, 2026, for further hearing.
