Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has threatened to institute legal proceedings against two political figures over claims concerning his ancestry and state of origin.

Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District, gave Hon. Abayomi Hunye and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello 24 hours to produce evidence supporting their allegations that he is an indigene of Ekiti State or face separate defamation suits.
The ultimatum was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the senator’s Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro.
Odunaro identified Hunye as a suspended member of the All Progressives Congress from Tube in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State and Marcus-Bello as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
According to the statement, the two political figures allegedly made the disputed claims during separate television interviews.
Adeola described the statements attributed to them as false, outrageous and defamatory, maintaining that they failed to produce any evidence when questioned about the alleged Ekiti connection.
“I watched in utter disbelief as these characters that I hardly know utter assertive and outrageous lies about my origin without any proof,” the senator said.
He added that one of the speakers allegedly claimed that he was from Ekiti State but could not identify the particular part of the state from which he purportedly originated.
“One falsely claimed on TV that I am from Ekiti, and when asked where exactly in Ekiti went blank and could not provide an answer,” Adeola stated.
The senator also accused the other speaker of making allegedly false assertions about the locations where his parents were buried.
“The other one was lying about the locations of the graves of my parents as if she were part of the undertakers at the burial, all in a futile effort to justify an unsustainable falsehood,” he said.
Adeola warned that he had reached the limit of his tolerance for what he described as repeated attacks on his identity and ancestry.
“Enough is enough. They should produce their evidence in 24 hours or be ready for my lawsuits,” he declared.
Odunaro said allegations questioning Adeola’s Ogun State ancestry had previously been deployed by his political opponents during the contest for the Ogun West senatorial seat.
He alleged that the controversy had resurfaced ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election as part of efforts to undermine Adeola’s candidacy.
The latest dispute comes days after Wale Adedayo, a former Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government Area, alleged during an appearance on Channels Television that Adeola was originally named “Sulaimon Ogunleye” and was from Ekiti State.
Adedayo further alleged that the senator had no ancestral connection to Ogun State and challenged him to establish his claimed roots in the state.
The allegations have generated political controversy because questions of state of origin and ancestry have featured prominently in opposition to Adeola’s political ambitions in Ogun State.
Adeola, who previously represented Lagos West in the Senate between 2015 and 2023, contested and won the Ogun West senatorial election in 2023. Before entering the Senate, he represented Alimosho State Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly and Alimosho Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The senator maintains that he is an indigene of Ilaro in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Several groups supporting his governorship ambition have also defended his claim to Ogun ancestry, describing him as a bona fide indigene of the state.
The allegations made by Hunye and Marcus-Bello have not been independently established, while the expiration of the 24-hour ultimatum does not automatically commence legal proceedings unless Adeola files the proposed actions before a court.
