The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a woman, Juliet Onweagba, for buying a day-old baby for N550,000.

Her accomplice, one Edith Ewudo, was also nabbed.

According to Southern City News investigation, while Juliet is 50 years old, her accomplice is 49 years old.

The incident happened at No. 3 Onyekwere Street, Awada, Onitsha, Anambra State.

Onweagba was said to have conspired with Ewudo to purchase the baby from one Ndidi Egeonu.

It was gathered that the baby was stolen from its mother shortly after delivery.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident to our correspondent and added that the baby had been recovered and was in good health.

Mohammed stated, “Police detectives attached to the Awada Division arrested one Juliet Onweagba, 50, of No. 3 Onyekwere Street, Awada.

“The suspect conspired with one Edith Ewudo, 49, of Orsumoghu Street, Awada, and bought a newly-born baby girl fort the sum of N550,000 from one Ndidi Egeonu, 35, from Odume Obosi.

“The baby was stolen from the mother, one Faith Udechukwu, 23, from Onitsha, shortly after delivery.”

Mohammed said the case was being investigated after which suspects would be charged to court.
