Nigerian-American Dr. Wendy Osefo, best known for her role on The Real Housewives of Potomac, has lost her teaching position following her arrest on criminal fraud charges in Maryland.

The 41-year-old television personality and her husband, Eddie Osefo, were taken into custody last Thursday after being indicted by a grand jury on charges including insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, and making a false statement to a police officer.

Court documents reveal that the couple claimed designer bags and jewelry were stolen from their home during an alleged April 2024 burglary while the family was away on vacation. However, investigators later discovered that several of the items, valued at approximately $20,000, had reportedly been returned to stores for full refunds before the supposed break-in occurred.

In the immediate aftermath of the arrest, Bravo pulled Osefo’s episode of Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition, which she had recently filmed for the network.

Wesleyan University also confirmed that Osefo has been removed from her position as Distinguished Visiting Professor of Sociology. She had joined the Connecticut-based university in fall 2024, teaching courses that explored reality television and social issues.

Prior to her tenure at Wesleyan, Osefo taught at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland until her resignation in 2024. She holds degrees from Temple University and Johns Hopkins University, as well as a Ph.D. in public affairs and community development from Rutgers University.
