The Nigerian Bar Association Welfare Committee Chairman, Mr. Y. C. Maikyau, has attended the Annual General Meeting of the NBA Warri Branch on the 26th of June, 2022

A statement made available to TheNigeriaLawyer shows that the learned silk did his primary school in Delta State. Therefore he was not a new person in Warri.

Maikyau was also said to have hailed the administration of Olumide Akpata and thereafter pledged to sustain the gains of the administration (Akpata’s administration).

The source said, “On the 26th of June, 2022, Yakubu Chonoko (YC) Maikyau SAN, who was in Jos was also sighted in Warri, Delta State where he attended the Annual General Meeting of NBA Warri Branch.

“His presence at the meeting was hugely appreciated by members of the Branch. In his usual manner, the learned silk met and greeted members of the Bar in attendance.

“Mr Maikyau SAN was called upon by the Chairman of the Branch, Chief Uti Emmanuel, to deliver a goodwill message. In doing so, he said whenever he and his team arrive Warri, the reception is usually exceptional, even though he is also from Delta State, having attended his nursery school (Ota Akra) in Agbor, Delta State.

“He further stated that he had consulted members and leaders who have given him the support to run for the office of the President of the NBA. He said he has been cleared to contest for the office come 16th July, 2022.

“Mr. Maikyau went further to commend the leadership of Mr. Olumide Akpata, and reiterated his commitment that his administration (God willing) will not only sustain the gains but will build on it.”

Furthermore, Maikyau called on lawyers to promote the course of justice and to conduct themselves with integrity and honesty so as to earn public respect.

“Mr. Maikyau SAN referred to the words of Ademola Adetokunbo, CJN where his Lordship said, “the respect with which the bar in any country is held is the best indication of freedom in that Country”. He added that for any Country to enjoy freedom, there must be an indication of respect to the rule of law because that is what will guarantee freedom and justice. He therefore made a call on lawyers to promote the course of justice, being the ones actually positioned to make that possible. He said for us to have respect as lawyers, we must conduct ourselves with integrity and honesty so as to earn the respect of the public.

“In concluding his speech, he said ‘we will continue to build on the integrity the Bar has gained under this administration.’ That we all have to come together and put our hands on the deck to sustain the recovery, repositioning and reformation of the Country. That his leadership will move to its members, identify the issues and will be committed to delivering on its manifesto which he invited members to read.

“Mr. Maikyau’s speech was applauded and in appreciation the Chairman of the Branch Chief Emmanuel Uti handed a copy of the Branch’s Bar Journal to him.” the source said
