The Federal Government has launched the Armed Forces of Nigeria Personnel Online Discount Shop, a digital welfare platform designed to provide serving military personnel, veterans and their families with access to essential goods at discounted prices.

The platform was formally unveiled on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, as part of efforts to ease financial pressure on members of the Armed Forces community and improve their access to everyday goods and services.
Akume said the welfare of military personnel should not be viewed solely from the perspective of operational equipment and combat readiness, stressing that the wellbeing of personnel and their families was also critical to sustaining a motivated and resilient Armed Forces.
“The welfare of those who serve a nation is a responsibility that extends beyond the provision of operational capabilities,” Akume said, adding that a resilient military is strengthened by the assurance that the welfare of its personnel and families remains a priority.
He described the online discount scheme as a contribution to the Federal Government’s broader welfare framework, aimed at easing financial pressures, improving access to essential goods and services and enhancing the quality of life of serving and retired military personnel.
The initiative operates through the Konga digital platform in partnership with Zinox Group, allowing eligible members of the Armed Forces community to purchase products at discounted prices.
Akume said the arrangement demonstrated how technology and strategic partnerships between government institutions and the private sector could be deployed to provide practical benefits for people who had dedicated themselves to the security and service of the country.
The SGF particularly welcomed the decision to include veterans and their families in the scheme, saying the responsibility to support members of the Armed Forces should not end when they leave active service.
According to him, the sacrifices made by veterans during periods of peace and national security challenges deserved continued recognition and institutional support.
The launch was accompanied by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Defence Headquarters and Zinox Group, providing the framework for cooperation between the Armed Forces and the private-sector technology company.
Akume said the agreement demonstrated the possibilities available when public institutions and responsible private organisations combine their capabilities in pursuit of a shared national objective.
He, however, stressed that the success of the scheme would ultimately depend on implementation rather than its launch alone.
The SGF urged Defence Headquarters, Zinox, Konga and other stakeholders to ensure that the system remained transparent, reliable and responsive to the needs of beneficiaries.
“The credibility of this initiative will ultimately be measured by the quality of service it provides and the tangible benefits it delivers to personnel, veterans and their families,” he said.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, said the Armed Forces would continue to use technology and strategic partnerships to improve personnel welfare and service delivery.
Oluyede stressed that reliable and accurate data on eligible beneficiaries would be critical to the sustainability and expansion of the scheme.
“In essence, we must build a robust foundation with accurate data for this scheme to endure far ahead of our time, and this can only be achieved through our collective efforts,” the CDS said.
He disclosed that the online shop was only the beginning of a broader welfare arrangement, with plans to bring additional vendors and suppliers onto the platform.
According to him, although the initiative currently involves Konga, Defence Headquarters intends to expand the partnership to other businesses capable of supplying goods required by personnel and veterans.
Oluyede specifically disclosed that discussions could extend to companies such as Dangote Cement, allowing beneficiaries access to building materials and other essential commodities at preferential prices.
“This is just the beginning. We are partnering with Konga, but we intend to bring other vendors on board,” he said.
“We are trying to interface with the likes of Dangote Cement so that people can have access to building materials and other essential goods that can make their lives better.”
The Defence Chief further disclosed that the military was considering establishing physical discount shops, meaning the programme may eventually operate beyond the online platform.
The proposed expansion would allow eligible military personnel and veterans to access discounted goods and services through physical outlets in addition to online purchases.
Oluyede urged members of the Armed Forces community to make judicious use of the scheme and called for continuous improvements to ensure that it remained relevant to beneficiaries.
Under the present arrangement, Konga’s existing e-commerce infrastructure provides access to products in categories including groceries, electronics, home and kitchen items, fashion and other household essentials.
Zinox Group Chairman, Chief Leo Stan Ekeh, who was represented at the launch by Konga’s General Manager for Corporate Governance, Reginald Obiako, said the company regarded its participation as a contribution towards recognising the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces.
Ekeh said Zinox was pleased to support an initiative designed to provide personnel and their families with goods at reduced prices.
“We believe that those who serve and protect our nation deserve our support and appreciation,” he said, while pledging the group’s commitment to the continued success of the programme.
The launch was also attended by senior military officers, including service chiefs. Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, were among senior officials reported to have participated in the event.
Akume commended General Oluyede, Defence Headquarters and the stakeholders involved in developing and implementing the project.
He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for what he described as the President’s support for the Armed Forces and their welfare, while urging eligible personnel and veterans to take advantage of the newly established platform.
