Olofu had earlier on Sunday, while reacting to a report released by ICPC, stated that the N1.6 billion balance had not been diverted, but failed to explain where the money was kept. Federal Government had given the state N28 billion bailout funds of which N12.5 billion was meant to defray the backlog of the state civil servants’ salaries inherited from the previous administration, while N15.5 billion was not given to local government workers to defray the three months salaries. Few months after the state government accessed the bailout funds, rumours did the rounds that a state government official had embezzled N1 billion from the funds but the state governor, Samuel Ortom swiftly dismissed the rumours and described it as a figment of some people’s imagination. Meanwhile, Public Complaint Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has said more can of worms would be unveiled concerning how the state government looted the bailout funds. Tsav, who said this in a signed press statement made available to the our reporter in Makurdi while reacting to the report by the ICPC which indicted the Benue State government of diverting the bailout funds, averred that he had been vindicated by his incessant claims of massive looting under the Governor Samuel Ortom administration. “I thought the government of Benue State is manned by saints from heaven who are as transparent as angels, and not hungry wolves in sheep skin. When I blew the whistle on the alleged corrupt deals under Governor Samuel Ortom, I was called names by certain politicians. “I have said it before and many hired agents called me names and some hungry Kunav politicians and scavengers dramatised their ignorance and senselessness,” Tsav said. The Public Complaint Commissioner regretted that many workers in the state were still being owed salaries, noting that, “No matter how heavy it rains on a leopard, its spot will remain latent.”]]>
