*Charges Them To Vet Candidates For Supreme Court Justices

A Legal Practitioner & Human Rights Activist, Mr Maxwell Opara has addressed his South Eastern colleagues to ensure that they strictly vet the list of shortlisted candidates for the position of Supreme Court Justices coming from the Region, with the aim of ensuring that old men and women are not pushed into the Bench, denying the Region representation.

Opara Esq made this remark while addressing some South East Pentecostal lawyers during their courtesy visit to his office he has asked them to check the ages of the shortlisted candidates. He said:

“One can not be allowed to useless the chances of the entire region because of his or her personal interest.

“Please let their age be checked so that we don’t push old people that have few months to retire to the Apex Court”

Remarking how it was done in other regions, Opara continued thus: “let those with lesser years to spend in the Bench withdraw for those with more years, that’s the politics of the other region.”

Calling out the Ohaneze group, Opara remarked that for the other regions their equivalent religious groups stepped in and gave advice.

According to him: “Most of the time their Religious leaders, Emirs and Traditional Leaders usually advise. So Ohaneze should come in immediately.”

Once again, he reminded his south east colleagues the importance of this exercise as according to him: “We can not continue to push old men and women into the Higher Bench. It’s not to our advantage.”
