Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, citing concerns over possible violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process.

Davido made the appeal in a post on X on Tuesday, ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

The singer, who is a nephew of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, said there were growing concerns about tension in the state and the possibility that the democratic process could be undermined.

“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election. There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process,” he wrote.

Davido said the people of Osun deserved to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely and peacefully without fear.

He urged the United States and the wider international community to monitor the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that voters are protected and that their votes are respected.

“Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear. I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected,” he said.

The singer stressed that his concern was to prevent violence and ensure a credible electoral process.

“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” Davido added.

The latest appeal comes after the singer had earlier warned during a live session with comedian Carter Efe that he would seek Trump’s intervention if anything went wrong during the Osun election.

Davido has openly supported Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid and has repeatedly urged political actors and residents of the state to reject violence, intimidation and provocation ahead of the poll.

The Osun governorship election is expected to feature Governor Adeleke and other candidates, including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress.

Davido’s intervention adds to growing calls for a peaceful and credible election as political activities intensify ahead of the August 15 poll.
