Kunle Edun, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has called for an urgent and thorough investigation by security agencies into the alarming invasion of the office of Dr. Kayode Ajulo, SAN, the Attorney General of Ondo State, by youths allegedly sponsored by a federal minister with gubernatorial ambitions, warning that the incident evokes the tragic violations that preceded the murder of former Attorney General Chief Bola Ige, SAN.

Kunle Edun SAN, a prominent legal practitioner, raised the alarm today after receiving a distressing WhatsApp message from Dr. Kayode Ajulo, the Attorney General of Ondo State, which he described as an SOS. Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Edun revealed that he immediately contacted Ajulo, who confirmed that a group of sponsored youths had forcibly entered his office, disrupting its peace and threatening his safety.

“But for the intervention of security agencies, the situation would have escalated further,” Edun said, relaying Ajulo’s account. The Ondo AG alleged that the youths were backed by a federal minister eyeing the state’s governorship, viewing Ajulo as an obstacle to his political aspirations.

Edun shared Ajulo’s poignant message, which drew parallels to the traumatic violations suffered by Chief Bola Ige, SAN, during his tenure as Attorney General of the Federation—intrusions that culminated in his assassination in 2001. “The harrowing several violations of his office, which ultimately led to his tragic murder, remain etched in my memory. This trauma lingers still,” Ajulo wrote.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to rein in the unnamed minister, asserting, “I cannot remain passive while his actions threaten both my life and the stability of our State.” Ajulo emphasized his steadfast commitment to justice, stating, “My resolve is unwavering, and I shall not be swayed. I stand ready to depart, for I possess other paths to follow.”

The invasion, according to Ajulo’s message, stemmed from his refusal to fund a questionable youth initiative linked to the “Akoko Youth” banner, demanding 22 million naira without clear justification. “I am under no obligation to finance every endeavor that claims to represent our community,” he wrote, clarifying that his limited resources must prioritize genuine community upliftment over “emotional appeals wielded for personal advantage.”

When he sought evidence of their legitimacy, Ajulo alleged, the response was an attack on his life and the integrity of his office. “I have supported numerous youth initiatives in my private capacity, but I cannot be coerced,” he added.

Edun expressed outrage at the incident, drawing a chilling comparison to the lawlessness that claimed Bola Ige’s life. “We cannot afford a repeat of what happened to late Bola Ige,” he warned, imploring President Tinubu and security agencies to act swiftly. “I implore the President and security agencies to quickly investigate this matter and bring every person responsible to book,” Edun demanded, stressing the need to protect democratic institutions and the rule of law.

Ajulo’s message also highlighted his principled stance against political intimidation. “To abstain from privately sponsoring a particular event does not signify a lack of concern for the youth of Akoko,” he wrote, underscoring his long-standing reputation forged before his current role. Edun echoed this sentiment, praising Ajulo’s integrity and urging authorities to view the invasion as an assault not just on an individual, but on the office of the Attorney General and the stability of Ondo State.
