The Wawa Lawyers’ Association Nigeria (WALAN) has announced the formation of a high-powered committee to establish an intergovernmental relationship between the Ebonyi and Enugu State Governments and WALAN.
The committee, consisting of distinguished legal professionals, aims to introduce a law curriculum in primary and secondary schools in the Wawa Land, to be taught in both English and Igbo languages.
The committee members include Prof. Joy Ezeilo SAN (Chairman), Chief Cletus Ofoke (Secretary), Chief Sir O A U Onyema, Chief Emeka Asogwa, and Chief Jerry Ezenyi. These respected personalities will serve as the link between WALAN and the two state governments on issues related to the design and implementation of the law curriculum.
According to WALAN, the introduction of law education in primary and secondary schools will keep the younger generation in Wawa Land ahead of other states in Nigeria in terms of law learning and practice. The association cited examples of countries like India, China, and Japan, where science and technology are taught in their indigenous languages from kindergarten to university level.
The committee will also work towards building a better working relationship and trust between Ebonyi and Enugu States, ensuring that equity, fairness, and justice are reflected in their dealings. Additionally, they will work towards the construction of the Wawa House, which may be known as ‘The Noble House’ in the future.
The initiative has been praised by educationists and legal experts, who believe that early exposure to legal concepts will help develop a strong foundation for students interested in pursuing a career in law. The Enugu State Government’s introduction of smart schools is seen as an advantage in implementing this proposal.
WALAN’s Secretary, Onochiengwu Obuna, expressed the association’s commitment to the project and thanked the committee members for their willingness to serve and contribute to the betterment of the Wawa Land.
