Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called for the immediate arrest and investigation of Senator Francis Fadahunsi over a viral video in which the lawmaker was allegedly heard making remarks calling for the killing of Accord Party members and their families ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo, Adeleke said he had reported the matter to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and demanded that the senator be investigated over the comments.
The governor said the alleged remarks had gone beyond ordinary political disagreement and should be treated as a security matter requiring the attention of the Federal Government.
“The second issue has to do with the viral video of a serving Senator, Francis Fadahunsi, who today called for the killing of Accord Party leaders, supporters and their families. In the video, the Senator even threatened that where they cannot get Accord Party leaders, they should kill their wives and children,” Adeleke said.
“This is now beyond politics. This is now a national security threat that requires the attention of Mr President through the Office of the National Security Adviser.”
A video circulating on social media appeared to show Fadahunsi addressing supporters in Yoruba. A translation circulated alongside the footage attributed to him the words: “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too.”
The video was also shared by Afrobeat singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, who provided an English translation of the senator’s remarks.
Governor Adeleke consequently called on the police and the State Security Service to investigate and arrest Fadahunsi over what he described as an alleged incitement to violence against residents of Ijesaland and Osun State.
He said he had contacted the IGP over the matter and claimed that the police chief acknowledged the existence of the video and assured him that appropriate action would be taken.
Fadahunsi, however, rejected the interpretation of his comments, insisting that the video circulating online had been edited and presented without the full context of his remarks.
“My attention has been drawn to an edited video being circulated by Davido on TikTok and Pelumi Olajengbesi on other social media platforms. The video was deliberately edited to distort what I actually said,” the senator said.
According to Fadahunsi, he had been reacting to alleged attacks on members of the All Progressives Congress in Ilesa and other parts of Osun State.
“What I said was that if the alleged killing of our party members by Accord Party thugs does not stop, our party will retaliate. I was referring to the continued violence and attacks against our members in Ilesa and other parts of the state,” he said.
“I stated unequivocally that if our party members are killed again, we will not simply fold our arms and watch. We will defend our people, even if such an incident occurs on election day.”
The senator alleged that more than 12 APC members had been killed and accused the state government of failing to adequately condemn attacks on opposition supporters.
He nevertheless urged residents of Ijesaland and other parts of Osun State to reject violence and participate peacefully in the governorship election.
Adeleke also raised a separate allegation concerning what he described as a police operation targeting Accord Party leaders ahead of the poll.
The governor claimed that a police signal had been issued directing the arrest of Accord leaders across the state and their transfer to Abuja, where they would allegedly be detained until after the election.
He argued that such an operation, if true, would amount to using security agencies to interfere with the electoral process.
Adeleke further called for an end to what he described as unlawful operations by the police Intelligence Response Team, alleging that its operatives had been arresting Accord Party leaders across several local government areas without justification.
“We demand that the IGP enforce due process and fair policing by aborting all anti-people plots against democracy in Osun State,” Adeleke said.
“We finally request that the police and other security agencies should act in line with the rule of law and their oath of office before, during and after these coming elections.”
Political tension has heightened in Osun ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with the Accord Party and opposition parties trading accusations of violence, intimidation and politically motivated arrests.
Fadahunsi’s explanation and Adeleke’s allegations remain competing claims, and no court has made any finding that the senator committed an offence arising from the viral video.
