A dramatic incident occurred at the Kaduna branch of Nigerian fintech startup Palmpay when company staff assaulted court bailiffs attempting to enforce a court order.

Video footage shows court officials trying to seize laptops from the premises per a court directive. However, Palmpay employees strongly resisted, claiming the court order was invalid.

The court bailiffs repeatedly stated they were legally mandated to execute the order, but this was dismissed by the Palmpay staff. Two individuals identified as Manager Solomon Temitope and Abdulrazaq Abubakar were seen accosting the court officials.

One agent was filmed shouting “there is no court order like that” while charging at a bailiff. The court team warned that obstructing an order was contempt of court.

The violent confrontation highlights resistance to law enforcement by the digital banking platform’s employees. Legal experts opined such conduct was not only contemptuous but could attract criminal charges.

The viral footage has damaged Palmpay’s reputation, leading to accusations of corporate disregard for the rule of law. While the company is popular for loans and services, its staff’s actions represent a troubling confrontation with authorities.

Many argue the employees should have lawfully contested the disputed order instead of taking the law into their own hands and obstructing court officials carrying out their duties. Palmpay risks further backlash unless it addresses this telling incident.
