A United States District Court judge, Beryl Howell, has granted US Attorney Jeanine Pirro four additional days to comply with an order requiring the release of records sought from the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Drug Enforcement Administration in a case concerning President Bola Tinubu.

The development was disclosed by Dr. Von Batten-Montague-York in a post on X, in which he said the court declined a request for a longer extension and fixed August 21, 2026, as the new deadline for compliance.

According to Batten-Montague-York, Pirro, who was appointed under President Donald Trump, had sought an additional 10 days to comply with the court’s directive regarding the DOJ, FBI and DEA records.

Judge Howell, however, granted only four additional days, reportedly noting that the litigation had already been pending for more than three years.

The records being sought relate to longstanding allegations concerning Tinubu and alleged drug-trafficking activities in the United States. The allegations remain disputed, and the court’s order for disclosure does not, by itself, amount to a finding of criminal wrongdoing against the Nigerian President.

Reacting to the latest development, Batten-Montague-York welcomed what he described as renewed efforts by Pirro and the Department of Justice to make the requested records available.

“We deeply appreciate US Attorney Pirro and the DOJ’s renewed motivation to release these documents, and we agree with Judge Howell. This case has been pending for three years. The time to release the Tinubu drug-trafficking files is now,” he wrote.

He argued that the strategic relationship between the United States and Nigeria should not prevent disclosure of the documents.

“As President Trump has indicated, our shared interests with Nigeria do not mean supporting an alleged drug trafficker,” he added.

The latest order means the relevant US authorities are expected to comply with the disclosure requirement by August 21, barring any further order or intervention by the court.
