The drop box visa, also known as the visa in-person waiver, is no longer appearing as an option on the US visa appointment booking platform for applicants in Nigeria. This sudden disappearance has left many Nigerians seeking to renew their US visas in confusion and frustration.

Despite the s impact this change may have on visa applicants, the US Embassy in Nigeria has not yet provided any formal information or statement regarding the removal of the drop box option. The lack of official communication has only added to the uncertainty surrounding the visa renewal process.

The drop box visa allowed eligible applicants, particularly those whose visas expired within the last 24 months, to renew their visas without the need for an in-person interview. This service greatly streamlined the renewal process and reduced the waiting times for many applicants.

However, individuals attempting to schedule their visa renewals have reported that the drop box feature is no longer available on the appointment booking platform. Some have even suggested that the platform itself may have been temporarily removed, further complicating the situation.

The absence of the drop box option comes at a time when many Nigerians are already facing backlogs and lengthy wait times for US visa appointments. Some applicants have reported waiting nearly a year to secure a physical appointment, even before the recent change.

As of January, drop box appointment slots were already unavailable in Lagos, forcing applicants to seek alternatives in Abuja. The complete removal of the drop box feature means that all applicants will now have to go through in-person interviews, reverting to the process that was in place before 2020.

The lack of formal communication from the US Embassy regarding this significant change has left many Nigerians feeling frustrated and uncertain about the future of their visa renewal process. Applicants are eagerly awaiting an official statement or update from the embassy to clarify the situation and provide guidance on how to proceed with their visa applications.

Until the US Embassy in Nigeria provides more information, visa applicants are left to navigate the changing landscape of the visa renewal process on their own, with many facing the prospect of extended wait times and the requirement for in-person interviews.
