A student of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Mariam Yakubu has apologised to the Faculty over misleading claims attached to her fundraising request which aroused public attention.

Mariam who is due to get inducted into the medical profession had faced challenges with raising the entire sum required for her provisional license, induction logistics, clearances and backlog personal bills.

In her fundraising request which was yielded to by generous members of the public, she was said to have disclosed confidential information as well as misrepresenting the entire sum of about N400,000 (Four hundred thousand Naira) as payable to her Faculty.

Since then, the Faculty has been inundated with calls and questions about why such a humungous sum should be charged an intending medical practitioner.

Having caused the public to raise questions on the integrity of the Faculty, its management and staff, and their sensitivity to the current harsh economic climate in Nigeria, through her misrepresentation, Mariam has thought it imperative to publicly apologise and breakdown the purposes of the said sum of money.

In her apology made available to TheNigeriaLawyer, she said, “With regard to the previous publication made by me, I am sorry for having made such information public.

I sincerely apologise to the University of Nigeria and faculty of medical sciences for having made this publication regarding the induction fee.

The money requested was for provisional licence, induction logistics and other personal clearances needed to offset some bills.

Please know that I am committed to preventing this from happening again. I value and appreciate my school for the effort made in training me to be a great doctor.”

Sincerely

Yakubu Mariam.

The Faculty will be meeting this morning to consider her action and subsequent apology.
