The Faculty of Law, University of Jos, and the wider legal community have been thrown into mourning following the death of Professor Sylvester Sadiq Shikyil, SAN.

Prof. Shikyil, a distinguished academic and Senior Advocate of Nigeria admitted to the Inner Bar in 2017, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026. His death was announced by colleagues and associates, who described the development as a great loss to the legal profession and to Tapshin land.

A respected scholar and legal practitioner, Shikyil served as a professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Jos, where he was widely known for his contributions to legal education, advocacy, and mentorship of young lawyers.

Tributes have continued to pour in from members of the academic community, the Bar, and his hometown of Tapshin, who remembered him as a leading light and pillar of the community.

In separate condolence messages, colleagues expressed deep sorrow over his sudden passing and prayed for God to grant comfort to his immediate family, associates, and the people of Tapshin.

They described the late silk as a committed teacher, seasoned advocate, and an influential figure whose impact on legal scholarship and practice would be long remembered.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
