The University of Ilorin, Kwara State, has achieved a major milestone by securing full accreditation for 36 out of 37 academic programmes presented to the National Universities Commission (NUC) during its October/November 2024 accreditation exercise.

This was disclosed in a press statement issued on Tuesday by the University’s Director of Information, Mr. Kunle Akogun, who said the development marks another stride in the institution’s commitment to academic excellence.

According to the statement, the result was conveyed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, in a letter dated April 30, 2025, signed on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, by the Acting Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu.

  • 36 programmes were granted full accreditation.
  • Only one programme, Hausa, received interim accreditation.
  • No programme was denied accreditation.

Breakdown by Faculties:

  • Faculty of Management Sciences: Finance was granted full accreditation.
  • Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences: Anatomy received full accreditation.
  • Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences: Computer Science was fully accredited.
  • Faculty of Education: All 17 academic programmes presented earned full accreditation.
  • Faculty of Engineering and Technology: Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering secured full accreditation.
  • Faculties of Environmental Sciences, Clinical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences: All submitted programmes were fully accredited.
  • Faculty of Physical Sciences: Three programmes secured full accreditation.
  • Faculty of Social Sciences: Four programmes received full accreditation.
  • Faculty of Arts: Igbo received full accreditation, while Hausa was given interim accreditation.

Reacting to the development, Prof. Egbewole described the news as a moment of joy and fulfilment for the entire university community.

“We are happy to be so recognised. We are indeed elated. This achievement confirms the consistent and substantial investment by the University Administration in both human and material resources,” he stated.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the Provost, Deans, Heads of Departments, and faculty members for their unwavering commitment and efforts that led to this success.

He assured that the University administration will continue to work hard to sustain the quality that earned it the accreditation, saying:

“It is our hope that we would continue to do our best to position the University for more recognitions. The Administration will continue to appreciate everyone who contributed to this milestone.”
