The University of Dundee has been ranked 4th among UK universities for overall student satisfaction in the 2019 National Student Survey (NSS).

The University recorded overall satisfaction of 90%, up 2% on the 2018 result and well above the sector average of 84%, and was ranked 2nd in Scotland.

The National Student Survey is a census of nearly half a million students undertaken independently by Ipsos MORI and evaluates how satisfied students are with the quality of their higher education experience. Dundee’s rankings relate to non-specialist universities across the UK.

The survey asks full-time first degree students 27 questions across eight themes relating to their experiences of learning and teaching. Across these themes, Dundee is ranked in the top 10 in the UK for 11 of these questions. The University was ranked 1st in the UK for course satisfaction with six subject areas: children’s nursing; dentistry; education; environmental sciences; molecular biology, biophysics and biochemistry; and physical geographical sciences.

Professor Lynn Kilbride, Interim Vice Principal (Education) at the University, said, “This is a fantastic result that demonstrates once again that we provide one of the best student experiences to be found anywhere in the UK.

“We are extremely proud of the excellent experience we offer students, whose interests are at the heart of everything we do. Staff and student representatives work closely to ensure that the student voice is heard at all levels of decision making. This result is something we can all take a great deal of pride in.”

Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) was ranked top in Scotland and 8th in the UK for the question relating how well students’ academic interests were represented by their union or guild.

DUSA President Josh Connor said, “DUSA is absolutely delighted to have been ranked the number one Students’ Association in Scotland. This achievement is a testament to the hard work of our dedicated staff and students that consistently go above and beyond to improve the overall student experience.

“The University ranking 4th in the UK for overall satisfaction is a significant achievement that we are incredibly proud of and we are grateful to have been able to play a part in achieving this.”
