It is a known fact that law which has a broader role to perform in society, serves more as a tool for measuring conduct and socialization of human and it is also clear that before the existence of man there was a law.
Law has over the period been tied to historical development of a society, socio-cultural environment within which each theorist finds himself.
Enugu State High court Judge, Honourable Justice Okey Anike, affirmed this assertion while delivering a powerful keynote address at the Eastern Edition of Univ Nigeria Conference held on Saturday, at Hillrange Secondary School, Centenary City, Enugu Lifestyle and Golf, Enugu state .
Justice Okey Anike who spoke on the topic: “Law as a veritable instrument in fostering human relationship”. Said, law precedes human relationships of whatever form. From the multilateral international communities to the family units.
The larger society is enabled to function by a combination of the individual’s moral sense and social control through the threatened sanctions of man-made law. We need to remind ourselves that we constantly orient our actions toward one another by signposts that are set neither by “morals,” in any ordinary sense, nor by words in lawbooks.
It then means that law is composing and consolidating class society’s relationships of production and the social relationships connected with them. These relations are formed with certain ideological views supported by the conscious will of the people expressed through the formulation of various relationships which are shown in the resulting customs and rules.
Ikechuwu Onuoma, The Managing Partner of Obra Legal and Coordinator of UNIV NIGERIA at the event said relationships are extremely crucial to the existence and survival of human race.
Onuoma, who spoke on the theme, “Rebuilding together the strength of human relationship”, added that relationship facilitates reproduction, nurtures environment for development , enhance life opportunities and extends survival.
He further stated that to maintain and to achieved this healthy and balanced relationship, there must be commitment
“In the last two years we saw the world pass from full classrooms, concert halls and sports stadiums to the complete isolation of every household on earth.
“We distanced ourselves from each other in order to protect our health and save lives.
“Time went by and little by little this separation led us to observe that not everything was well, that we wanted to be with our loved ones, spend time with friends, go for walks or travel for vacations
“We began to feel the need for the relationships that we had before.
“Noting, their absence led us to ask ourselves profound questions: Why do I need relationships? How do relationships influence our happiness? How do they contribute to our health?”
