The Faculty of Law, University of Lagos (UNILAG), celebrated forty-three (43) exceptional alumni who achieved First-Class honours at the 2024 Nigerian Law School Bar Examinations during a ceremony held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the Faculty Boardroom.
The achievement, one of the highest recorded by a single university in Nigeria, brought together honorees, faculty members, students, and distinguished guests, including Hon. Minister Dr. Jumoke Oduwole and Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo, SAN.
Speaking at the event, Professor Bola Oboh, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research), representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, praised the Faculty for its consistent academic excellence. She urged the new lawyers to uphold the highest ideals of the legal profession in both character and practice.
Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Abiola Sanni, SAN, described the graduates’ performance as “stellar, reflecting the Faculty’s rigorous academic standards.” He also highlighted recent faculty milestones, including a strategic partnership with the University of Dundee, UK.
In their goodwill messages, Dr. Oduwole and Professor Oyewo encouraged the graduates to maintain professionalism, integrity, and a sense of national service, while serving as proud ambassadors of UNILAG.
The ceremony’s high point was the formal recognition of the 43 honorees, each receiving a commemorative medal and a congratulatory handshake from Dr. Oduwole and Professor Oboh a symbolic celebration of both personal achievement and institutional pride.
The event also served as a platform for the UNILAG Alumni Association to announce bold new initiatives. Engr. Ife Oyedele, FNSE, Alumni President Worldwide, revealed plans to launch the UNILAG Alumni App, a digital platform designed to connect graduates across generations and geographies.
Describing the app as “much more than a networking tool,” Engr. Oyedele said it would celebrate individual and collective achievements, foster mentorship, and support the building of a lasting legacy of impact.
He further disclosed plans for a 1,800-bed modern hostel facility to enhance student welfare and infrastructure. Drawing inspiration from global institutions with strong alumni engagement, he encouraged the new lawyers to join the association and contribute to the university’s growth.
The event highlighted UNILAG’s dual mission of academic excellence and innovation. While the First-Class graduates exemplified the Faculty’s rigorous academic standards, initiatives like the Alumni App signaled a bold step toward digital transformation and lasting institutional impact.
