The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) has adjourned to September 15, 2025, the case against Danladi Umar, Esq., the former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), over allegations of professional misconduct.

The adjournment followed the adoption of statements of facts and testimonies from both parties during a sitting held at the LPDC office within the Body of Benchers Complex, Abuja. The matter, filed by John Aikpokpo-Martins, Esq., arose from a controversial incident in March 2021 at Banex Plaza in Abuja, where Umar was filmed physically assaulting a security guard—a video that sparked public outrage.

Aikpokpo-Martins petitioned the LPDC, alleging that Umar’s actions amounted to gross misconduct and behavior unbecoming of a legal practitioner. The case has since raised critical questions about accountability and professional standards in Nigeria’s legal community.

Representing the Applicant were Clement Ugo Chukwuemeka (Democrat) Esq. and Emmanuel Onuoha Esq., while Blessing Anozodo Esq. appeared for the Respondent, Danladi Umar.

The LPDC is expected to determine two key issues: whether Umar’s conduct violated the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners, and whether the Committee has jurisdiction to discipline a sitting or former chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
