The association made the appeal weekend on the occasion of the Bar and Bench Forum organised by Ughelli NBA. In a speech, Joel Opete, the branch chairman, stressed that the establishment of the criminal division in Ughelli High Court would ameliorate the challenges faced by lawyers and litigants in prosecuting and defending the criminal cases from Ughelli and environs. Opete stated that the large number of criminal cases at the Effurun court were all for Ughelli judicial division, pointing out that often, lawyers spent a whole day waiting for their turn and only to be asked to take another date, leaving their cases unattended to for a very long time. Mukoro admonished lawyers who always stand to defend criminals who confessed to the crimes committed to desist from such act, as β€œit will not do the society any good.” On the issue of delayed justice, Mukoro listed poor prisons funding as a major challenge on the path of justice delivery, noting that the situation was causing series of adjournments on administration of criminal justice in the state.]]>
