The United States [US] mission in Nigeria has stated that the non-migrant visa processing services popularly referred to as ‘Drop Box’ is not available in Nigeria.
The mission stated this today, the 19th of March, 2021 via its verified Twitter handle, U.S. Mission Nigeria @USinnigeria.
It noted that contrary speculations and reports circulating on various platforms, the mission has since 2018 discontinued the issuance of ‘drop box’ visas.
According to the mission, ‘Drop Box’, which is a non-immigrant visa interview waiver process, is one of the processes closely monitored by the United States Department on a regular basis and in line with various criteria, including overstay rates and visa-related fraud, in other to determine and evaluate the eligibility of each country.

“Despite recent media reports, the nonimmigrant visa interview waiver process, popularly known as the “drop box,” has been discontinued in Nigeria since 2018. The State Department continually evaluates each country’s eligibility based on numerous factors including overstay rates and visa-related fraud”. The statement reads in part.
The mission however stated that it remains committed to ‘promoting legitimate travels to the United States’, accordingly, all persons who may wish to apply for a visa must be present for an interview.
