A dramatic midnight gun battle shook the Royal Court Estate in Jahi II, Abuja, early Wednesday as operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command successfully foiled a violent armed robbery.

The operation unfolded around 3:20 a.m. following a distress call from residents reporting an ongoing robbery in the high-end estate. Responding swiftly, officers from the Mabushi Division raced to the scene, where they were met with heavy gunfire from the suspects.

According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, “The operatives were engaged in a gun duel by the hoodlums. However, the suspects were overpowered by the superior firepower of the Police and attempted to flee with gunshot injuries.”

A fierce chase through the estate’s darkened streets ensued, culminating in the arrest of two suspects — Rabiu Jubril and Ibrahim Isa — both residents of Tipper Garage, Jahi. Despite sustaining injuries, the duo was apprehended and taken into custody. Police recovered an array of weapons and stolen property at the scene.

Items recovered included two locally fabricated firearms and three suspected stolen vehicles: a black Toyota Matrix (registration number NBS 348 CP), a black Toyota Venza (ABJ 105 AV), and a grey Lexus IS350 (RSH 295 CB).

Further searches led to the discovery of several high-end electronics believed to have been stolen, including two MacBook Pro laptops, a Lenovo laptop, an iPad, a PlayStation 4 gaming console, a Canon IP1224 camera, and a drone camera.

Describing the arrest as a major blow to organized criminal activity in Abuja, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, declared:

“Let this serve as a clear message to criminal elements — Abuja is not a safe haven for your activities. We will track you, confront you, and bring you to justice.”

CP Adewale further urged residents to adopt preventive security measures, especially installing tracking devices in vehicles to aid recovery efforts if stolen.

“We strongly advise the public to install tracking devices in their vehicles. It significantly improves the chances of recovery should an incident occur,” he emphasized.

He reaffirmed the FCT Police Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the capital city.

“We will not relent. We are here to protect the people, day and night,” he assured.

The arrested suspects are currently undergoing further investigation and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the process.

The Police also called on residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities via the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913, 08033111911, or 07057321547.

“The fight against crime requires everyone’s cooperation,” SP Adeh added. “Together, we can keep our communities safe.”
