Nigerians have taken to social media to criticize the Nigerian Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo for his inability to act like his American counterpart, Mike Pence.

They alleged that Osinbajo has not been able to surmount the courage and go against his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari.

TheNigeriaLawyer recalls that the Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence had earlier certified the victory of US President-Elect, Joe Biden, even against the will of his boss, Donald Trump.

However, Nigerians on Twitter have expressed their thoughts against VP Osinbajo, alleging that he is a “coward” for his inability to place patriotism above personal interest.

TheNigeriaLawyer gathered reactions of Nigerians on Twitter thus:

Aisha Yesufu tweeted “Atiku @atiku showed a Vice President can stand up against a President in Nigeria. Mike Pence just did one right thing. Atiku stood up to Obasanjo when he wanted to truncate democracy with a third term. Making excuses for Osinbajo is enabling bad behaviour.”

@TopeAkinyode: “In 5 years of lawless regime, Professor Yemi Osibanjo, law professor & Senior Advocate of Nigeria has refused to stand up for Nigerians and the Nigerian Constitution just for once. Sad.”

@UNCLE_AJALA: “See how VP Mike Pence stood with constitution by doing the right things as he defends America institutions because he knows the loyalty of any good leader is to the masses & the institutions, we can’t say that for VP Osibanjo, who puts loyalty to Buhari above patriotism & masses.”

Lola Okunrin:
“Prof Osinbajo should be ashamed as lawyer, as a pastor and as a professor

“The way Mike Pence stood for democracy shows that he’s not just a lawyer by profession, he’s by action. He knows the rule of law

“All this one does is to wear Agbada and commiserate with bereaved families”

@Moshood: “Vice President up for premium dragging.

“If you think Osinbajo has done enough within his capacity in the face of human rights violation and insecurity in this country, you aren’t being sincere.”

@Ozo_Njenje: “Osibanjo is a coward, Mike Pence showed how men act by going against Trumps wishes, don’t say America is not Nigeria, Atiku went against Obasanjo when he wanted to live in Aso Rock forever, May we never have a coward prof like @ProfOsinbajo as vice president again.”

@AbdullahiBabat9: “Osibanjo is a coward, Mike Pence showed how men should act by going against trumps wishes, don’t say America is not Nigeria, Atiku went against Obasanjo when he wanted to rule in Aso Rock forever, May we never have a coward prof like @ProfOsinbajo as vice president again.”

Besides, PDP Vanguard also tweeted:
“Atiku had gone against Obasanjo’s third term agenda that’s designed to create anarchy in Nigeria. Mike Pence has opposed Donald Trump’s destruction agenda. Osibanjo a law professor can’t even correct the @mbuhari‘s assertion that “rule of law isn’t a hallmark of democracy”.

@firstladyship: ”U.S Constitution says VP Mike Pence, is Senate President. However, the fraudulent 1999 Constitution didn’t confer such powers on Osinbajo So the issue here is MORAL. Repeatedly, Osibanjo has said he is Buhari’s son. Basically, his loyalty is to Buhari & Aso Rock, not to Nigeria.”

In another development however, some Nigerians have equally applauded the role of Osinbajo as opposed to his critics.

TheNigeriaLawyer gathered reactions along this line, thus:

Tise Somide: “One man openly condemned SARS and secured Presidential authority to dissolve SARS.

“One man directed the formation of judicial panels across the country to get justice for victims of police brutality.

“One man has made sure FG programs get to the grassroot.

“That man is Osinbajo.”

Dunni Adeniyi: “For those saying VP Osinbajo hasn’t stood for democracy. For the record, he sacked the DSS boss when they invaded National Assembly. It’s the same Osinbajo that ensured states set up a judicial panel in order for victims of police brutality to get justice. Stop chasing clout!”

Theresa Tekenah: “Prof Yemi Osinbajo is the most active and emphatic Vice President Nigeria has ever had. If you like vex from now till tomorrow, your vex or opinion can’t change the fact. Neither does the VP need your validation.”

@Medico-zeal: “To those of you who support Yemi Osinbajo actions and make grounds for his loyalty to Buhari and lack of allegiance to the Nigerian constitution, talmbout “His hands are tied”, y’all are ridiculously shameless.”

Kemisola Adekunle: “His name is Professor Oluyemi Osinbajo, He is committed and dedicated to his country and office, He remains the best VP ever !!”
