As the 2018 Annual General Conference of the NBA approaches, many lawyers are beginning to ask questions on how the conference is to be organized, and of course, packages that are expected. To address this, TheNigerialawyer (TNL) has put up this little piece which talks about eight things the delegates and conferees at large are to know or expect about the forthcoming conference. Conference Theme: The theme of the conference is Transition, Transformations and Sustainable Institutions which is categorized into five general areas, namely: Political Transition and Governance, Sustainable Economic Development, Diversity and Inclusion, Technological Disruptions and Rule of Law and Security. According to the NBA president, A.B. Mahmoud SAN, the theme of this year conference is a buildup of last year theme which is: “African Business: Penetrating through Institution Building”. Speakers: Some speakers are expected to brace the event. The speakers are carefully selected to speak on burning issues facing the nation and the legal profession. As revealed by the Chairman of the Technical Committee on Conference planning, President Buhari is among those to be invited. He is expected to speak on the state of the nation as the 2019 General Election is at hand. Another dignitary that has been invited for the conference is Nigerian Former Head of State, Alhaji Abdulsalam Abubakar. Alhaji Abdulsalam Abubakar has been invited for the role he played in making sure that there was a smooth transition of power from military to civilian rule. The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, is expected to give the keynote speech. Other expected speakers are Comrade Isa Aremu, Ayo obe, Dr Yemi Kale, Bode Agusto, Kirsty Brimelow, Laurie Kleiman, Nuru Lemu, Phillip Hackett, Suleiman Abubakar, Jim Ovia, etc Conference Special session: The conference is to feature a special session. The special session is to be organized by some law societies such as the American Bar Association. Partnership with the British Nigerian Law Forum: The TCCP already has a media partnership with the British Nigerian Law Forum ahead of the conference. Conference Materials: The TCCP has promised that an app known as the interactive app will be made available to conferees. The Committee revealed that the app is to enable delegates to ask questions which will be made live at the conference. The app is basically made to make delegates to follow the sessions of the conference at ease. Another material that will be made available to delegates at the conference is a flash drive. According to TCCP, the flash drives are to contain all the conference materials so that delegates can get hold of them in just a small device. DSTV Live: Just like last year’s conference, the NBA Conference this year will be streamed live on DSTV channel and CNBC. The essence is to enable the general public to view the conference from their homes. Duration of Early Bird: The early bird category for registration in the conference is to end on the 31st day of July 2018 and not on the 1ST as was earlier circulated. Members are therefore advised to take advantage of this opportunity and register.
