Tony Elumelu, the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, has categorically denied reports suggesting that he is being considered as the next governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The rumors began circulating on social media when one Imran Muhammad quoted an unnamed source claiming that President Bola Tinubu was contemplating Tony O. Elumelu as a potential candidate for the position of CBN governor.

In response to these rumors, Tony Elumelu took to social media to clarify the situation. He posted, “No please. This is false news,” thereby dispelling any speculations regarding his potential appointment to the CBN governorship.

Tony Elumelu is a highly successful banker who has previously served as the CEO of United Bank for Africa (UBA), one of Nigeria’s leading banks with a global presence. He is widely recognized for his influential role in the business and financial sectors.

Elumelu’s prominence extends to his interactions with political leaders. After the February election, he hosted the then-president-elect at his private residence in an upscale area of Lagos State. Additionally, he was recently hosted by President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock.

Furthermore, Tony Elumelu was a featured guest speaker at the recently concluded Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) conference, an event inaugurated by President Tinubu. Despite his influential stature and engagement with political figures, Elumelu has clearly refuted any suggestions of becoming the next CBN governor.
