Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved a ₦10,000 monthly transportation allowance for civil servants and local government employees in the state.

The announcement was made on Monday during the supervision of the YEAP-SAFER support disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub in Oyo town. The initiative will be implemented for an initial period of three months, starting from March 2026.

Governor Makinde explained that the allowance is part of the state government’s strategic response to prevailing economic challenges, particularly the rising cost of transportation caused by the ongoing energy crisis. He noted that the financial strain had significantly affected workers’ welfare and productivity.

“The support scheme is aimed at easing the financial burden on civil servants while sustaining efficient service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies,” Makinde said.

Under the directive, all eligible workers will receive the ₦10,000 monthly subsidy in addition to their regular salaries. The administration also stated that disbursement guidelines will be communicated through official government channels, and the programme will be reviewed at the end of the three-month period to determine further action.

The initiative comes as part of broader measures to cushion the economic impact of recent increases in fuel prices and rising transportation costs, ensuring that Oyo State’s workforce continues to perform effectively.
