President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending 30 days abroad, arriving in Lagos on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, following the conclusion of his extended working vacation in Europe.

The President arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, where he was received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other government officials and dignitaries.
Tinubu had departed Abuja on August 30, 2026, for what the Presidency initially described as a three-week working vacation as part of his annual leave. His first destination was London, United Kingdom.
His return on September 29 means he spent 30 days outside Nigeria. According to the Presidency, he spent one week in London before proceeding to Paris, France, where he remained for the rest of the trip.
The President’s arrival was also announced by his Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, who posted on X: “Landing. Welcome home Mr President!”
Earlier on Tuesday, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced that the President had ended his working vacation and departed Paris for Nigeria, with Lagos as his first destination. Contemporary reports quoting the State House said he was heading to Lagos for engagements connected with Chief MKO Abiola and political meetings.
Tinubu’s vacation had initially been scheduled to last three weeks. However, on September 21, the Presidency announced that the President would extend his stay in Europe by “a few days,” saying he remained in contact with developments in Nigeria and continued to direct government activities while abroad.
During his stay in Paris, Tinubu held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and also met businessman Vincent Bolloré.
The Presidency had maintained during the extended stay that Tinubu continued to perform presidential functions while outside the country, even as his prolonged absence became the subject of political and constitutional debate.
Following his return, Tinubu is expected to remain in Lagos for several days.
Onanuga said the President chose Lagos as his first stop in order to honour the memory of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election and a central figure in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle.
On October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day, Tinubu is expected to attend the premiere of a film honouring Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
The Presidency also said Tinubu would hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates during his stay in Lagos as preparations continue ahead of the 2027 general election.
He is expected to return to Abuja after completing the engagements in Lagos.
The President’s arrival brings to an end the European trip that began on August 30, taking him first to London and subsequently to Paris, and ultimately lasting 30 days rather than the three weeks originally announced by the Presidency.
