Auta, made this remark on Friday while felicitating with them on their 2022 Bar Week.
Auta said, the Makurdi Branch under the impactful leadership of Justin Gbagir, Esq. has been a front-burner in raising and deliberating on issues of national importance.
“The choice of this year’s theme, ”Democracy, Electoral Process and Paradigm of Change in Nigeria” is an indication that this Law Week is not just a mere tradition, but an event that reflects on our societal realities.
“The fact that the election year is almost at the corner, has made this theme very aposite and timely.
“It is not in doubt that the Nigerian Lawyers (Judges and Justices inclusive) are critical stakeholders in the shaping and redefining of our electoral fortune through engagements such as this one and of course judicial activism.
“In spite of several amendments of our Electoral Act and Judicial Pronouncements, our Electoral Process is still far from being proficient.
“An auspicious event like this brings to mind the words of Sunday Adelaja, thus, ”If Nigeria will change for the better, then we must take responsibility for the changes in Nigeria”.
“This to my unbiased mind is the essence of this year’s Law Week.
“I wish to commend the Law Week Planning Committee for bringing together, in one event, the calibre of resource persons to chart through various sessions and programmes of the week. I am positive that the event will remain impactful and result oriented.
