*Felicitates With NBA Abuja (Unity Bar) Branch On 2022 Law Week
*Commends Organisers For Choice Of Theme Which Beams Interest On Critical Aspect Of Our Nationhood

A Former General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association and Presidential Candidate in the 2022 NBA General Elections, Jonathan Gunu Taidi Esq. has felicitated with the Abuja Branch of the Association on its 2022 Law Week Celebration.

In his felicitation message made available to TheNigeriaLawyer, Taidi also praised the organisers of the program for the choice of theme for this year’s law week.

The Abuja branch also known as the “Unity Bar” themed its 2022 Law Week: “Nigeria: 2023 and Beyond – Building Systems For Accountable Leadership and Good Governance”.

In his message, Taidi noted that it is beyond debate that Nigeria’s institutional systems have broken down and true accountability is lacking on all fronts and the chosen theme would help x-ray why the state of affairs remains so poor in the nation.

He further congratulated the organisers for beaming such critical interest on that aspect of our nationhood even as the nation recruits new political leaders who will take charge from May 2023.

He emphasised that the process of National growth and development starts off from the recruitment process which has already commenced with political party primaries.
He however berated what he described as the “docile response” of our key institutions to the ongoing process.

He congratulated the branch once again and wished them a fruitful and impactful experience.

The full statement reads:

I felicitate with the Chairman and Members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Abuja Branch on her 2022 Law Week with the theme: “Nigeria: 2023 and Beyond – Building Systems for Accountable Leadership and Good Governance “.

It is a fact beyond debate that our institutional systems have broken down and true accountability is lacking on all fronts. This carefully thought out theme examines something quite imperative and would enable us x-ray why the state of affairs remains ever so poor and why for too long have searched and hoped and prayed for a workable and accoutable system that continues to elude us.

I congratulate the organisers for beaming such critical interest on this aspect of our nationhood, particularly as we recruit new political leaders who will take charge from May 2023.

Undoubtedly, the starting point is the recruitment process which has already begun with the primary elections of various political parties. The response of our key institutions remains as docile as ever and there seems to be no lessons learnt.

However, as the saying goes, ‘better late than never’. It is critical that this platform interrogate areas of concern and come up with workable suggestions for onward dissemination to critical stakeholders for quick implementation.

Our nation cannot afford to remain a perpetual experimental field, always searching for solutions to alien models. We must focus on re-modelling our institutions in tune with our peculiar situation.

I congratulate the branch on this auspicious occasion and wish all participants a rewarding and impactful experience.
