The Obra Foundation has officially commenced its 2026 Summer Internship Programme with an opening ceremony that featured Hon. Justice Osinachi Nwoye of the Federal High Court, Lagos State, as Guest of Honour.

Addressing the interns, Justice Nwoye shared practical lessons from his years in legal practice and on the Bench, urging young lawyers and aspiring legal professionals to build their early careers on learning, discipline and professional growth rather than the immediate pursuit of financial reward.

His Lordship encouraged the interns to embrace hard work, patience, perseverance, honesty and professionalism, reminding them that excellence in the legal profession is not achieved overnight but through consistency, sacrifice and continuous learning.

He also stressed the importance of maintaining a professional appearance and protecting one’s reputation, advising the interns to avoid gossip, distractions and conduct capable of undermining their personal and professional development.

Justice Nwoye told the interns that the practice of law remains one of the most valuable aspects of the legal profession, stating, “The best aspect of the legal profession is practice.”

He also reminded them of the role of personal responsibility in shaping their future, saying, “A substantial part of my destiny is in my own hands.”

One of the lighter but memorable moments of the session came when His Lordship remarked, “Every good lawyer has back pain,” a comment that drew laughter from the audience but also underscored the demanding nature of legal practice and the sacrifice required to attain excellence.
