*Issues Disclaimer Against Unauthorized Emails Requesting Fees for TIN
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has issued a disclaimer warning directors of newly registered companies about an influx of unauthorized email messages requesting payment for obtaining a tax identification number (TIN) and other services.
The Commission emphasizes that these messages are not from the CAC and that TIN is automatically generated free of charge by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) upon incorporation.
In a statement released on April 19, 2024, the CAC clarified that the FIRS’s Tax Identification Number is electronically generated and instantly endorsed on the certificates of relevant business entities upon registration with the Commission’s Company Registration Portal (CRP) at no additional cost. This seamless process is a result of the full integration of services between the CAC and FIRS.
The Commission further stated that all its services and associated fees are clearly published on its official website, www.cac.gov.ng. Any notices, information, or updates regarding the Commission’s operations are also made available on the website for public reference.
The CAC reassures the general public of its commitment to providing registration and regulatory services that meet the expectations of its valued customers and stakeholders. It urges individuals and businesses to rely on official communication channels and disregard any unauthorized messages requesting payment for services that are already provided free of charge.
