Wale Adedayo, the suspended chairman of Ijebu East Local Government in Ogun State, remains defiant after his recent arrest and three-day detention by the Department of State Security (DSS). Adedayo was detained based on a petition from Governor Dapo Abiodun alleging inciting comments.

Speaking after his release on Monday, Adedayo said he told the DSS he would never retract his statement that Ogun State local governments have received zero federal allocations under Abiodun. Though apologizing if Abiodun felt embarrassed, Adedayo insists his demand for LG funding access is for grassroots welfare.

Adedayo claims other council chairmen contributed to the letter sent to APC leader Bola Tinubu alleging lack of LG funding. He says he edited and signed the letter, surprised colleagues have backed down. The DSS accused him of planning protests, which he denies.

Addressing allegations of mismanagement leading to his suspension by councillors, Adedayo dismissed them as fabricated lies. He plans to legally challenge his ‘illegal’ suspension.

Adedayo remains steadfast that Governor Abiodun must allow councils to receive federal allocations. He argues this will credit Abiodun, like ex-Governor Gbenga Daniel who let LGs execute projects.

The Ogun SSG maintains no LG funds are missing, as government has augmented allocations. But Adedayo insists councils, not state committees, should account for the funds.

Despite detention and suspension, Adedayo is undeterred from his crusade for direct federal grants to LGs. The APC is yet to discuss the raging controversy involving its governor and the defiant council chairman.

Adedayo’s statements indicate he will continue his high-stakes face-off with Governor Abiodun over control of local government finances in Ogun State.
