A 43-year-old man, identified as Azeez Isa, was apprehended by security guards as he attempted to rob a new generation bank opposite the Maplewood Estate in the Oko Oba area of Lagos State.

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday.

Isa was discovered using a sledgehammer to repeatedly strike the bank’s security door in an attempt to gain entry.

The security guards, who were initially alarmed by the noise, traced its source and found the suspect in action. Fearing that other individuals might be involved in the operation, the guards promptly alerted the police.

According to a police source, the suspect’s audacious attempt at robbery raised concerns about his intentions. The police arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call at approximately 4:20 am and arrested Isa while he was still attempting to break through the door.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect was currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation. Further investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspect had any accomplices.
